'For us the pope is Peruvian': Catholics in Peru welcome Pope Leo XIV

Peruvians across the Andean nation celebrated as Cardinal Robert Prevost, a dual U.S.-Peruvian citizen, was elected the new leader of the Catholic Church on Thursday (May 8). "We know what kind of person Prevost is. We know that he will continue much of Pope Francis' legacy," said a Catholic devotee in Chiclayo.
